Taking a Break During Troubling Times - A Caribbean Cruise

The times we live in have been deeply troubling.  My husband and I regularly follow the news and politics of the day and it's deeply depressing.  In addition, we often don't agree on the solutions and we have fractious arguments about the politics of the day.  But one thing we can agree on is how to find relaxation and relief from these troubling times  -  go on a cruise!

So off we went to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on April 2nd.  We were scheduled to embark on the MS Westerdam for a Caribbean cruise April 4th but first we spent two days exploring the Everglades and Big Cypress parks and Miami Beach before boarding our ship.

From quiet natural scenes...

...to the colorful neon and Latin culture of South Miami Beach.

And for a treat, breakfast at the Fontainbleau:

We boarded our ship at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 4th  Our friends from Maine, Sharon and Bob were joining us on the cruise.

First port of call was Grand Turk Island at Turks and Caicos:

I went snorkeling at Grand Turk and took my so-called waterproof camera with me.  That's why you see no more pictures of Grand Turk nor of San Juan, Puerto Rico where we docked the next day,  But here are pictures of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands after I bought a new camera in port.

We concluded our voyage with a stop at Half Moon Cay (Little San Salvador Island) in the Bahamas.

I took pictures with an inexpensive new waterproof camera while I snorkeled:

Our last night on the ship, Bob and Sharon treated us to a great steak dinner at the Pinnacle Grill, a specialty restaurant on ship.

We arrived home to Albuquerque Saturday night, April 11th.  Another great vacation!

  1. The pics show that you escaped our troubling times quite nicely. I could feel the warm breezes and smell the tempting food. Bon petit all around!
