The Amazing Hummingbirds

Broad-tailed Hummingbirds at Crest House just east of Albuquerque, New Mexico - Sandia Crest 10,678 ft. elevation

Amazing slow-motion video of hummingbird tongue as it feeds at a nectar feeder:

Black-chinned hummingbirds in Sandia Park, New Mexico:

Most likely a juvenile Rufous Hummingbird  filing up in Breckenridge, Colorado (September, 2011) for his southern trip to Mexico for the winter.

A Rufous Hummingbird in my Silk Tree in my backyard.  They are very aggressive, standing watch and bombarding any other hummingbird that attempts to feed at my nectar feeders.

  1. How neat. Unfortunately we have only one variety of these wonderful little birds....

  2. How pretty. I ended up with 4 hummers in my house this summer. They quickly resign themselves to the fact they are stuck in a window and the sit quietly while I gently pick them up and carry them back outside.
