How to Spend Time With Your Grand Kids

My youngest daughter moved to Albuquerque from Colorado in August.  She and her husband have two cute little girls, Rosemerry and Melody.

They moved to within a couple of miles of my house and when a holiday comes along or an unplanned emergency happens where they need someone to watch the kids, more often than not they call on grandma.

I really can't stand them watching TV or their phones. So, I usually try to get them outside or take them to an interesting place where they can learn something new and we can spend time doing something together and being active..

On Veteran's Day last year, I took them to Bandelier National Monument near Los Alamos, NM where I had never been. We all learned a lot about the ancient peoples and culture who inhabited this place. We hiked through the village ruins and ancient agricultural fields, climbed ladders up to the cave homes and the girls got their Junior Ranger badges to add to their growing collection of National Park Junior Ranger accomplishments like last year's at White Sands National Monument and Carlsbad Caverns National Park:

I take them for walks or bike rides around my neighborhood and we like to play in the parks:

Last summer, I took them on an over night train ride to Las Vegas, NM on the Amtrak train and we stayed in the historic Plaza Hotel.

Lots of films and TV shows are made in Las Vegas, NM and the stars stay at the Plaza Hotel.

At the Plaza Hotel, they met another little girl and became immediate friends.  The three girls played in the Plaza with great enthusiasm as only young girls can!

I took them to our NAACP Juneteenth Picnic in Rio Rancho's Haynes Park last June.  They flew kites and enjoyed meeting new kids playing games.

I have grand children far away in Ceveland, OH and Chaska, MN.  We drove to Cleveland and back February 26-March 7 to see our grandson, Max, who is 10 years old and in the 3rd grade.  It was well worth the 3000 mile road trip.  Kids grow up so fast, it is so important that we see them as youngsters before they become adults. Here is a three generation photo of our grandson, Max, with his Mom and Dad on Ron's 80th birthday in Cleveland.
