"Wintertime and the sledding is easy..."

My daughter, two grand-daughters and I headed out to the Sandia Mountains for a perfect day of sledding and snow play. About one hour from my house in Albuquerque is the Capulin Spring Snow Play area.  There are a couple of developed hills for sledding. The sky was blue, the snow fluffy and white.  Only a hundred or so had found it by noon Saturday with many people just stopping along NM Hwy 536 on the way up to Sandia peak and skiers stopping at Sandia Ski area (non-operational).  We stopped just past Tecolote Trail (Mile 9) and before the Sandia Ski area.  My 4WD Toyota 4runner easily accessed the 12-18 inches of snow and the kids made a few runs down a slight slope with 2-3 feet drifts before we continued on to the Capulin Snow Play area.  Here are pictures we took of the couple of hours we were playing in the snow:

This is how we do it on the undeveloped slopes:

"This is harder than snow boarding..."

"...but I did it, Mom."

And, yes, even Grandma can sled in low gear:
